If you want to know what a true consumer insight looks like. What it is to have the ‘user in mind’, then take a look at this picture below. It’s one of the simplest and best innovations I’ve seen in a while. The key question is this:

‘Why did it take the industry more than 100 years to think of it?’

  1. Wow!!!!!! Thats a great innovation. Now it looks so simple but you are right, they took forever to think about it. And the toilet paper has always been the same, they need to innovate it! i guess you don´t need to break your head to be innovative, you just need to think clear and simple; and listen to your consumers!

  2. The issue with these innovations is typically “how do I build a substainable advantage from it?”.

    If I “invent” a better way to grip a plug, how do I ensure better distributed, higher volume, branded incumbent firms don’t gazump me immediately with a direct copy/adaption?…

    And the answer is NOT patents…
