The gamer changer

At first I thought rentoid.com was the game changing idea for me all I had to do was launch and wait for my multi-million sell out.

then I thought critical mass in listings would be the game changer…

so I did that…. but the game didn’t change dramatically

after that I thought the new home page would be the game changer….

so I did that…. but the game didn’t change dramatically

but I also needed some SEO that surely, would be the game changer….

so I did that…. but the game didn’t change dramatically

in addition some high profile blog coverage would be a game changer….

so I got that…. but the game didn’t change dramatically

so I then I thought mainstream media & TV would be the game changer….

so I got that…. but the game didn’t change dramatically

in concert with some improved usability I knew we were getting close to the elusive gamer changer…

so I did that…. but the game didn’t change dramatically

Turns out the transaction process is  too complex, so simplifying it will certainly be a game changer…. ?

I’m doing this…. but it wont change the game dramatically.

No single event will, other than picking the right lotto numbers. One thing is for sure…. the game has changed dramatically since the first idea, launch and subsequent iterations. Eventually the game will be won, but it’s rarely a single play which wins it. That said, I choose to believe the next one will be the winner, otherwise why get out of bed the next morning?

  1. Nice post dude, this tells how it really is, and I can trace most of these for the rentoidz journey…

I can relate to this. And, I’d refer back to one of your earlier posts Steve, about “awesomeising it”.

It takes many steps, who knows which one will be right. The important thing I see is to keep taking them, and keep moving. To be agile, it’s necessary to move. That’s why I always try, every day to accomplish something. Wether this be a sales call, a fix, a feature or just reduce the #fail quotient.

It’s the little shots that add up. Some would call this perseverance, others determination. Perhaps it’s just sheer bloody mindedness?

    Sam,

  2. Great post. And even though success has been incremental so far, you’re right to believe the next change will be the game changer. It’s those moments that we all work towards and they do in fact occasionally happen.

  3. Awesome post mate!! That last sentence rocks it; “That said, I choose to believe the next one will be the winner, otherwise why get out of bed the next morning?”
And that same notion can be applied to all areas of life… Each action should be viewed as the game changer whether it is or not, as you say; otherwise why get out of bed…?
    LOVE IT!!

  4. Its the new and exciting that makes it all interesting. Think of the birds. They are on the move; making, shaping, building, remoulding because that next little tweak might just be the one.

  5. There is rarely a move that is a game-changer. I’m coming to believe it’s a combination of persistence and timing. Where the two intersect, the game is changed. You may indeed have the best idea and/or product in your space, but it may take time for that to be realized on a larger level. So, in the mean time, keep on workin’ at it…
