I wonder if anyone out there has been receiving any MAPS – reverse SPAM that is.
They do sneaky stuff like follow people on twitter or create blogs which link to yours so you backtrack to check them out. They trick you into paying them a visit. I guess it’s the ‘pull marketing’ of the SPAM world. Often it’s nonsensical as there is no website, no twitter person / company. I’m not sure how it gets their ‘message’ (if you can call it that) across, or whether there is something more sinister behind it?
I’ve had a bit of it lately and so I just coined it ‘MAPS’ reverse ‘SPAM’…
What’s your experience with this phenomenon?
Here’s an example; I just got followed by this person on twitter. As a courtesy, I went to see who it was and determine if we had stuff in common… to see if it was a ‘genuine’ connection. Afraid not!

Steve.
Been wondering about these myself. The following have followed me in the last week or so, with the last two already deleted. I don’t have a heap of followers, so I tend to check who any new followers are and get sucked in too!

Interesting spam idea I guess.
