Did you build it?

Did you build the website? Yes

Did you build your blog? Yes

Did you design the property development? Yes

Did you renovate your house? Yes

Did you launch the product? Yes

Did you manufacture the product yourself? Yes.

Did you landscape your own garden? Yes.

Did you make that advertisement? Yes

Did you self finance the business? Yes

Yes you did all these things, and more, every bit of them. You orgnaised the project, you had the idea, you got the finance from the bank, you conceived it and you made it happen. Never mind if the advertising agency made the creative, the PHP programmer coded your website or the bricklayer built the house.

You did it with your mind, your management skills and your ability to execute the project. None of it would have even started without you.

So whenever anyone asks if you did it? You say “Yes”.

Top 100 business blogs

It’s nice to be recognised for a consistent effort occassionally. As can be seen below Startup blog makes the top 100 business blogs – number 82.

Honestly, I’d still do it if no one was reading – because it’s worth doing.

How to blog about your business

We all know it’s good practice to blog about our business or start up. We want to be authentic, transparent and build a relationship. But often we struggle with what to write about.

What we’ve done at www.rentoid.com is try to make sure it’s a dialogue and not a monologue.

You can check out the rentoid blog here.

So here’s a super list of ideas on how to blog about your business:

Don’t just blog about your business

Blog about other things your people may be interested in

Blog action day

Blog action day is cool. Here’s why:

It’s simple way to unlock the power of the blogosphere. It’s for a really good cause. One that people are happy to help, but often don’t know how. It’s a start up which is an event.

Here’s the idea:

From www.blogactionday.org

“On October 15, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind – the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic.”

They already have almost 6000 blogs committed to it. Including this one.

Simple idea, simple to do, big impact.

Let’s hope it spreads.

I’ve been tagged…

I have been tagged by Ben at Ben Rowe’s Blog.

Here are the rules; Once you’re tagged, you need to mention 5 things about yourself that others don’t know. Then you need to tag 5 others (I’ll only do one). No, it’s not a chain letter, but an entrepeneur insight provider. I’ll try and be revealing.

1. I have never tried an illegal drug. I have my dad to thank for this, he had a very influential way of pointing out the negatives of drug use ever since I can remember.

2. I like to think I am born entrepreneur. My first business at age 10 (with brother) was an organic, free range egg farm (yes, ahead of my time I know). We built a chook shed from second hand materials and bought some hens. We let the chooks out each day to wonder in the garden so their eggs would be superior. We made a lot of money selling the eggs (cash no tax) until it all fell over. My brother refused to dispose of an over supply, and some rotten eggs got into customers kitchens. Word of mouth spread…. A lesson here.

3. I sort of live with my parents… average about 3 days a week. Justified by saying I’m mostly at my girlfriends, I did live out of home for 10 years, and starting a business is hard enough without running a household.

4. I’m a hypochondriac.

5. I like to hang out with really smart people and try and convince myself I am their intellectual equal. I find a perfect score in mathematics far more interesting than popularity. I think they put up with me because I make them laugh.

Hope you found this fun.

Can’t conjure up 5, but over to you Mikey at Escape the Matrix. Get blogging.
